To place a call with PhoneGnome, you dial the person's telephone number, even when calling another PhoneGnome member. PhoneGnome knows what numbers belong to PhoneGnome members, and which ones don't
Dialing from the US/Canada Accounts
When entering a telephone number, you dial the number using the dialing method for your specific local region. So in the U.S., one generally dials 1-areacode-number such as 14085551234. To place an international call from the U.S. one dials 011 following by the country-code, then area code.
For PhoneGnome members with the PhoneGnome box, calls can be placed using 7-digit dialing or any other local dialing conventions, and the call will be placed via your local phone service provider.
Dialing from Accounts Outside the US/Canada
If your PhoneGnome account telephone number is a number outside the U.S. you dial using the dialing conventions for your specific location. So, for example, in most of Europe, to dial a number in the same country, one dials 0 followed by the number. To dial a number in different country, in most European regions, one dials 00 followed by the country code, followed by the country-specific area/city/number. For example, to call a U.S. number using a Phonegnome account associated with a European number, one might dial 0014085551234 to call the above number.
For PhoneGnome members with the PhoneGnome box outside the US, local calls can be placed using any local dialing conventions (i.e. without the leading 0 prefix) and the call will be placed via your local phone service provider.
In Short... Regardless of where you live, or what kind of PhoneGnome account you have, to place a call, you dial using the normal calling conventions for your location. You do not need to learn a new dialing mechanism.
Advanced PhoneGnome Dialing Capabilities
In addition to the convenience of dialing plain phone numbers, advanced PhoneGnome users may appreciate the following advanced dialing capabilities of the PhoneGnome service.
Calling SIP Addresses
To dial a SIP address, simply enter the SIP address in URI form such as sip:user@service (for example sip:joe@example.com). Such SIP addresses can be called via the 'Quick Call" feature, entered into your Contacts and called via click-to-dial, and even used as find-me/follow-me numbers.
Calling Users on Skype
Since Skype handles are names rather than numbers, dialing a Skype user is normally impractical with only a numeric telephone handset. You can dial a Skype user using the My PhoneGnome website by entering that user in a special URI form: skype:username
You can also place a call to a plain phone number using your SkypeOut service by dialing **75number
Note: Skype calling requires the PhoneGnome box and free GnomeLink for Skype feature activated.
Speed Dialing
Each contact entered into your My PhoneGnome Phonebook (contact list) is assigned a speed dial code to make it easy to call your contacts rapidly via the standard handset rather than signing into the web and using click-to-dial. To view the speed-dial code for a given contact, simply hover the mouse over the name of the contact on the My PhoneGnome Phonebook page (contact listing screen).
Call Home
If using SoftGnome softphone capability with your PhoneGnome service, you can quickly "call home" by dialing **466 (**HOM). When dialed on the SoftGnome softphone client, it rings to the "home" number. When dialed from "Home", it rings to the SoftGnome softphone client. So when travelling, you can call from your PC to your home free simply by dialing **466.
Force Call via Home Phone Service
Dial ##number to force a number to be placed directly using the phone service connected to the PhoneGnome box without any processing of the call.
